Channel Names: Don’t Hit That Spacebar!

We recently discovered that if you create a channel name via the Meshtastic Web client or via an Android app (and others) and have a space in the channel name, you may have a difficult time if your friends on iOS try to join up (if and only if you’ve added a space in the channel name)!  For instance, our new BBS here at MeshMentor HQ posts internal info to us on channel 2 which is called “BBSNews” and uses a 256 bit key. Previously we had named it “BBS News” after setting it up on the first node using the Meshtastic web client, but then couldn’t add that same space on the nodes using iOS devices. After removing the space from the name on the channel we wished to share (so that they’re all using BBSNews as the name), we were able to interact with the channel. Compounding the initial confusion is the fact that the Meshtastic app adds a space in the channel listing – even though the channel name in setup no longer has the space! YIKES! Hope we saved you all some frustration! 🙂
